Sultan Abdul Hamid College (SAHC), established in 1908 in Alor Setar, Kedah Darul Aman, is one of Malaysia’s most prestigious Premier Schools with a long tradition of excellence in both academics and sports. Guided by its enduring motto, “Scholar, Sportsman, Gentleman,” the institution has consistently produced distinguished leaders and individuals who have contributed significantly to the nation.
Among its most notable alumni are Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, the former Sultan of Kedah and the only Malaysian ruler to have served twice as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Sallehuddin ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the current Sultan of Kedah, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the Father of Malaysian Independence and Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s fourth and seventh Prime Minister. These distinguished figures reflect the college’s long-standing legacy of leadership and national service.
In the field of sports, rugby has been one of the college’s proudest traditions. The Sultan Abdul Hamid College Rugby Team, widely respected in the Malaysian school rugby scene, has demonstrated consistent excellence and competitiveness over the decades.
The team achieved national recognition when it emerged as MSSM KRM Milo Under-15 National Champion in 1985 & Under-18 National Champion in 1986 , marking a historic milestone for the college. SAHC further cemented its reputation by winning the Premier Schools Rugby Championship titles in 1999, 2000, and 2002, showcasing a dominant era of school rugby excellence.
At the state level, the team has also enjoyed multiple Kedah state championship titles in both the Under-18 and Under-15 categories, reflecting the strong rugby culture and continuous development of young talents within the school.
Beyond trophies and titles, SAHC Rugby has produced players who have progressed to represent state and national teams, including notable players such as Wan Syahmi and Fairuz Rahman, further demonstrating the program’s ability to nurture athletes capable of competing at the highest levels.
Today, the Sultan Abdul Hamid College Rugby Team continues to uphold the school’s proud heritage—developing student-athletes who embody the values of discipline, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship, in line with the college’s timeless motto: Scholar, Sportsman, Gentleman.
